A recreational vehicle, or RV, is a motorized vehicle that can serve as a mobile home on wheels. Typical RVs are equipped with all the modern conveniences found at home. Even a base model RV will be equipped with a sparse kitchen, an arrangement for sleeping and sometimes a washroom. Larger models are much elaborate with a full working bathroom, multiple bedrooms, a full kitchen and a living area. Smaller RVs are modified trucks or vans, where the only the cab of the vehicle is left and the RV body is attached to the frame. The larger coach-style recreational vehicle is built as a complete unit at the factory and looks more like an inter-city bus.
An RV is insured just like any vehicle would be insured except that many owners tend to have larger liability insurance, especially because it’s usually the RV driver who is the cause of the accident. It is also a good idea to obtain content insurance. Content insurance covers the loss of objects in the event of a robbery or damage through vandalism, accidents or fire. Since the RV is typically driven while on vacation, another good addition to an insurance policy would be vacation expenses or travel insurance. This policy covers things such as rental vehicle, hotel and hospital bills should you have an accident.
A good option for those owners with large RVs is to buy a car dolly or hitch. Because of the size of these RVs, the dolly allows you to tow a smaller vehicle that can be used to do errands and see the sights once the RV is parked for vacation. An awning is a great addition to any RV, as is provides shelter from the sun and rain; some awnings can even be equipped with a bug screen. If the RV will be parked for any length of time it needs a cover to product it from the elements. These RV covers are available in different sizes to suit the different sizes of vehicles. Often these covers have zippered openings to allow access to engine compartments, storage bays and door openings. They are designed to withstand assaults from the sun, bird droppings, rain and pollutants.
